Recently within a short time, a number of dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteers “retired for a variety of reasons” including illness, accidents, relocation, continuing education. 12 routes serve meals from Plymouth, Kingston, Forty Fort, Swoyersville, Edwardsville and surrounding areas including the Back Mountain on the west side and Nanticoke, all of Wilkes-Barre, Ashley and Plains on the east side. Meals are planned by a registered dietician and prepared by a head cook and staff in the COCU kitchen five days a week. About 125 recipients receive regular, soft or diabetic (non-insulin) diets. To learn more and/or to volunteer in this ministry of caring, call 288-1023 and talk to the volunteer coordinators. If you know of someone who is a shut-in and could benefit from this ministry, please give them the above number. The cost is $25 per week.
