CPR and AED Training Courses

COCU SCHEDULES FAMILY AND FRIENDS CPR COURSES – COCU has purchased an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). AED’s are designed to be simple to use for the layman, however, training is necessary. A number of members of our congregation have indicated an interest in attending such a course.

COCU will offer The American Heart Associations Family & Friends® CPR course. This format offers basic CPR training in group environment. It provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. Upon successful completion of the class, students will receive an American Heart Association Participation Card. The content includes adult and child CPR and choking, as well as use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

If you ARE NOT CURRENTLY TRAINED IN CPR and have indicated by survey, that you are interested in learning CPR, please REGISTER for a class. *ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE REGISTERED, as review books, which will be available to be signed out in the library, must be read prior to class attendance. There can be no exception. Additionally, AHA specifies a student to instructor ratio, so classes will be closed when the roster is full. There is no charge for this course and registration can be made by calling the church office at (570) 288-8434. If you have any questions please contact Bobbi Price. Thank you for interest.

Schedule your church directory portrait

A new pictorial directory is in the works for Church of Christ Uniting!

For your convenience, Olan Mills will convert our Fellowship Hall into a professional portrait studio. Reserve your appointment time at one of the sign-up locations in the Narthex or the entrance to Fellowship Hall or call 1-800-866-2263 or online at

Each family/household that comes for photography and portrait viewing at the church will receive a complimentary directory and an 8×10 color portrait. You will be able to electronically view and select your portrait from a variety of poses.

The first round of portrait sessions is Tuesday, November 24 and Monday, November 30. If you purchase additional portraits your order will be ready to present to friends and family as Christmas gifts. If you miss the first round, don’t worry. We will have a second round of portrait sessions in early 2010.

For more information please contact Linda Lewis. We hope to see you in the new directory!

What is Stephen Ministry?

Our congregation’s Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.

Church Of Christ Uniting recently became involved in Stephen Ministry.  This one-to-one lay care giving ministry is named for Stephen, one of the first seven laypeople called by the church to assist the apostles in caring for others. (You can read Stephen’s story in Acts 6 and 7.)  Stephen Ministry is truly “ministry,” that is, service to others, caring for others in Jesus’ name, doing the work that God has both called and gifted his children to do. Do you feel a calling to care for others who are hurting?  Do you desire the personal joy that comes from sharing Christ’s love with people?  In the next few months, our Stephen Leader Team will begin training some of the members of our congregation to serve as Stephen Ministers. To learn more about Stephen Ministry, speak to Pastor Carol.

Please help update church records!

Please help June and David in the church office to update the church membership records. We are also in the preliminary stages of publishing a church directory.

If you know of members who are no longer active please reach out to them and ask them to let us know if they wish to remain on our membership roster or if they have found a new church home.

Thanks for your participation in this effort.
