Lenten Evening Services 2017

Come and join us and our local Christian Community each Wednesday evening as we travel to a different local church to hear a different pastor and learn about Spiritual Disciplines. The Services will begin at 5:30 p.m., and Wednesday services will be followed by a soup supper. At each service, Communion will be served and a monetary collection will be taken to support Ruth’s Place.

The address for each participating church is listed below the weekly schedule. If you would like to attend, but do not have a ride, please call the church office (570-288-8434).

Weekly Schedule

Wednesday, March 8: Service will be hosted by Church of Christ Uniting, with Reverend Dr. Carol Fleming  preaching on the topic of Worship and Service.

Wednesday, March 15: Service will be hosted by Westmoor Church of Christ with Reverend Joseph Stokas preaching on the topic of Prayer.

Wednesday, March 22: Service will be hosted by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with Reverend Paul Metzloff preaching on the topic of Confession.

Wednesday, March 29: Service will be hosted by First Welsh Presbyterian Church, with Reverend James Shanley preaching on the topic of Study and Scripture.

Wednesday, April 5: Service will be hosted by Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church, with Reverend Shawn Walker preaching.

Wednesday, April 12: No service.

Maundy Thursday, April 13: Service will be at any of the participating churches. Service at Church of Christ Uniting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, April 14 at noon: Join us at Church of Christ Uniting for Reverend Dennis Dewey, Biblical Storyteller: “Hear your favorite stories again for the first time.” Rev. Dewey is from Utica, New York. He is the retired pastor from Stone Presbyterian Church in Clinton, New York.

Services will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by a time of fellowship with appetizers and hors d’oeuvres.

Wednesday, December 7: Service will be at Westmoor Church of Christ (57 S. Goodwin Ave., Kingston) on the topic of The Shepherds, with Rev. Joseph Stokas preaching.

Wednesday, December 14: Service will be at Church of Christ Uniting (190 S. Sprague Ave., Kingston) on the topic of Mary and Joseph, with Rev. Carol Fleming and Rev. James Shanley preaching.

Wednesday, December 21: Service will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (813 Wyoming Ave., Kingston) on the topic of The Animals, with Rev. Paul Metzloff preaching.

August 7th – Vacation Bible School Presentation

Please join us on Sunday, August 7th, for a Vacation Bible School Presentation from 10:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Watch our VBS kids perform five of their songs from Cave Quest: Following Jesus, the Light of the World. Afterwards, join us in Fellowship Hall at 11:15 a.m. for a slilde-show presentation showcasing our last five weeks of VBS while enjoying an ice cream sundae!

Education Sunday

Sunday, June 5, will be Education Sunday. We will be honoring the 2016 high school and college graduates during the worship service.  If your child or grandchild is graduating from high school or college this year, please contact the church office at 570-288-8434 and ask for June Gavenonis by Sunday May 15, so we can include them in the June 5 worship service.

Mother’s Day Flowers Order Form

The Altar Guild will be purchasing geraniums Mother’s Day this year, which is Sunday, May 8.  You need to fill out the form below as usual so that your loved ones will be honored and remembered by listing their names in the Mother’s Day Sunday bulletin.  WE ARE NOT DOING WINDOWS.  Your name will be listed alphabetically in the Mother’s Day Flower insert.

As always, thank you for your support during the year. All the geraniums will be donated by the Altar Guild. The flowers will be planted on our church grounds.

Please complete the forms by Sunday, April 24, and send them to Michelle Giza, 86 E. Vaughn Street, Kingston, Pa. 18704 or Barbara Swanson, 215 Noxen Road, Harveys Lake, Pa.  18618.  PLEASE DO NOT MAIL TO THE CHURCH OFFICE.  Thank you.

Easter Flower Order Form

Under the direction of the Altar Guild, spring flowers will be placed in the sanctuary on Sunday, March 27. The cost of each plant is $7.50. Window arrangements are $35.00 and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

The deadline for flower orders is Sunday, March 13. The donor names will be listed alphabetically in the Easter Flower insert. In order to accommodate the bulletin deadline, no late orders will be accepted.

Payment must accompany your order. Please make your check payable to COCU Altar Guild. Orders may be placed after worship or mailed to Michelle Giza, 86 E. Vaughn Street, Kingston, Pa. 18704, or to Barbara Swanson, 215 Noxen Road, Harvey’s Lake, Pa. 18618.

If you wish to take the flower with you following the service, please indicate on the form below. Plants not taken will be distributed to our homebound members following the service.

Maundy Thursday at Wesley Village

Come and join us at Wesley Village on Thursday, March 24th, Maundy Thursday. The Worship Ministry Team will be hosting Communion and a time of Fellowship. At 10:00 a.m., we’ll join those living at Wesley Village in the community room/chapel in Partridge-Tippet. Communion will be served, a short service will be held, and a then we’ll enjoy a time of fellowship with those attending. All are welcome. We hope you can join us. If you would like to go and need a ride, please call the church office (570-288-8434).

60th Anniversary of Reverend Dr. James Harring’s Ordination

On Sunday, April 26th we will be honoring the Reverend Dr. James Harring on the 60th Anniversary of his ordination.

A luncheon will follow worship on April 26th – with ‘words of appreciation’ during service.  People are being asked to send in cards of remembrance or thanks that we will make into a memory book for Pastor Harring.  And people may contribute to an appreciation gift/honorarium if they choose.  Cards of remembrance/ thanks or contributions can be sent to the church office at 190 S. Sprague Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.

February 25- Second Wednesday in Lent

This year our celebration ministry team has decided to have services each Wednesday in the Sanctuary, with light refreshments following the service in Fellowship Hall before choir practice.  As before, they will be 30-45 minutes in duration but each service you will have the opportunity to partake of communion at the rail. Our theme will be THE PARABLES OF LENT. In stories of lives transformed, Jesus invites us to receive the means of grace as we are offered: Justification, the Word, the Treasure, Mercy and Forgiveness.
