Easter Basket Project

The Service and Mission Ministry Team is sponsoring COCU’s annual Easter Basket Project. Our goal is to provide assistance for 100 families facing food insecurity.

Both monetary and food donations will be collected for baskets which will be distributed through the Al Beech Food Pantry. Items such as canned corn, soup, pasta, and cereal and Easter candy for the children are needed as well as monetary contributions which will be used to provide grocery gift certificates to help families purchase perishable food items.

Volunteers from the congregation, coordinated by the Ministry Team, will be in the narthex prior to Sunday service and outside Fellowship Hall after service on February 21 and 28 and on March 6 and 13 to accept donations. Checks made payable to COCU and noting “Easter Baskets” also may be mailed to the church office.

Our COCU family is always so willing to open their hearts to those dealing with challenges in providing for their families. The Ministry Team thanks you for your support and generosity as we join together in this service and “show our faith by our works.” James 2:18

Easter Basket Project

Donations for our congregation’s annual mission to provide food baskets for those facing food insecurity will be collected during March.  Our goal is to provide help for 100 families through the Al Beech Food Pantry, which is based at Church of Christ Uniting.  Both monetary and food donations are needed.  Supplies such as canned corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, scalloped potatoes, and soup as well as Easter candy for the children will be collected.  Monetary contributions will be used to provide $20.00 gift certificates for families to purchase perishable food items.

Members of the Church and Community Ministry Team will be in the narthex prior to Sunday service and outside Fellowship Hall after service on March 1, 8, 15, and 22 to accept donations.  Checks made payable to COCU and noting “Easter Baskets” also may be mailed to the church office.

Every year, our COCU family opens their hearts to those dealing with challenges in providing for their families. The Ministry Team thanks you for your support and generosity as we live the words of Jesus, ‘What you do for the least of these, you do for me.’

Food Pantry President Needed

The Al Beech-West Side Food Pantry is in desperate need for a person to take over the responsibilities of President of the organization.  The Food Pantry has been in existence for 30 years and in 2012 gave out 2,322 orders, averaging about 194 orders monthly.  In December, 2012, we distributed 250 food orders which provided food for 655 West Side residents.  The numbers continue to grow because the need is so great.  We have three former Presidents who are still actively involved in the work of the Food Pantry who would be valuable resources to the incoming President.  There are also about 100 active volunteers involved in the operation of the pantry.  A job description of the duties of the President is available upon request.  Please direct inquiries to Howard Castor, Chairman, Search Committee at 823-0284.
