AL BEECH/WEST SIDE FOOD PANTRY
REPORT FOR JULY, AUGUST & SEPTEMBER
During this quarter, the total number of orders distributed was 515, slightly lower than the average of 200 per month. The annual number of orders given is around 2,400. The summer numbers are usually lower, possibly due to less heating expenses.
In July, 159 orders provided food for 395 persons consisting of 107 children, 225 younger adults and 63 older adults. In August, 192 orders went to 524 persons. Of these, 184 were children, 295 were younger adults and 45 were older adults. In September, 164 orders fed 472 persons – 146 children, 258 younger adults and 68 older adults.
A new statistic is now required by the government, facilitated by the Commission on Economic Opportunity, which provides the vast majority of the food distributed. A “Self-Declaration of Household Income” form must be signed by each head of a household and kept on file. This total number is 252 actual households which received the 515 orders listed about. The actual number of persons who benefitted from the food pantry was 671. This involved helping 229 children, 347 younger adults and 95 older adults.
The new requirement of signing and statistics has meant additional duties for the telephone, distribution and statistic volunteers who are faithfully following out the increased responsibilities as required.
