At the March meeting of the Food Pantry Board of Directors, it was decided to increase the number of orders given from 30 to 35 for a trial period in order to determine whether the increased number could be handled by the packers. Although the monthly total of orders was high, at 247, and the number of clients served was high accordingly, at 707 household members, none of the days’ orders exceeded 30 and only 2 days actually reached 30. Orders were given on 9 days; however, there were 31 orders given the Friday after Easter. The 707 residents served included 209 children, 387 adults aged 19 to 59 and 111 adults aged 60 and older.
Boy Scouts from Forty Fort United Methodist and St. Ignatiuis Roman Catholic Churches and Montessori School collected food for the Pantry. Rick Kutz and other CEO staff conducted interviews with some of the recipients. This was in response to a request from “Feeding America,” successor to “Second Harvest” which supplies most of the food to the Weinberg Regional Food Bank. The Weinberg Bank then supplies food to the local food pantries, including Al Beech/West Side Pantry.
